Farmer Hans is inside the Farmhouse west of town. Speak to him to start farming, then grow and deliver one Wheat for The Farmer's Path. That first hand-in unlocks the Grinder and Chef Elroy's recipe shop; later requests open more seeds at Crawford's shop and more recipes at Elroy's.

If you came here because Hans did not give you a Furnace, visit Molly instead. The Furnace reward moved to her Forge introduction, so repeating Hans's second task is not the solution. If you are waiting for new seeds, check the task reward, your home journal, and the correct seller before assuming the farm has stopped progressing.

Finding Hans and starting the farm

Welcome to Elderfield Farmer Hans speaking inside his farmhouse

Tanner's opening conversation points you toward farm work west of town. Follow that route to the Farmhouse and enter the building to meet Hans, the enormous skeleton occupying the interior. The nearby Stone Tower is a different destination with its own investigation. You do not need to solve the tower to have the initial farming conversation.

Hans explains why he needs another pair of hands. After shedding his skin as he aged, his bones kept growing until he could no longer leave the house without breaking it. He values the Farmhouse too much to destroy it, while his old farmhand and cook remain with him. Agreeing to help gives you permission to use the farm and begins the practical work of restoring it.

The initial help includes eight Cleansing Balm, access to the farm's amenities, and spending money. Use the balm to open a manageable patch of ground rather than planning around a fully cleared field immediately. Crawford sells the tools and seeds for the opening crop, and the storage bin outside gives you somewhere to keep materials. Keep the Wheat intended for Hans separate from produce you plan to sell or process.

The table covers these recorded Hans requests and the ranch-opening event. Read each task's individual conditions below instead of treating the rows as a day-by-day calendar. A seed unlock is usually the result of reporting back and claiming the reward, not simply reaching the relevant location. Several follow-ups also arrive by letter, which adds a separate step between finishing one task and accepting the next.

The Farmer's Path: reserve one Wheat for the hand-in

Buy Wheat Seeds from Crawford after Hans authorizes the farm work. Plant, tend, and harvest the crop, then bring one Wheat back to Hans. Growing the crop is only part of the job: selling it all before the return conversation leaves you without the submission item. Keep one aside as soon as it is harvested if you are also using Wheat for other purposes.

After the delivery, claim Hans's reward and speak to Chef Elroy. The Grinder becomes available, and Elroy's recipe shop opens. These are separate benefits: the Grinder is processing equipment, while the shop is a place to buy recipes. Opening that shop does not teach every item in its stock automatically.

This is a useful early stopping point for reorganizing the farm. Put away spare materials, review the recipes you can actually afford, and decide what your next trip needs to accomplish. The beginner tips guide explains how to combine early farm work with Molly's mining introduction. You do not have to postpone every other town conversation until you have completed all of Hans's later requests.

The Skull Chalice: letter, Workbench craft, and Pumpkin Seeds

Finish The Farmer's Path and collect its reward, then wait for Hans's next letter. Read the message and return to the Farmhouse to accept The Skull Chalice. Hans wants a Giant Skull Chalice to suit his appearance. The item is crafted at a Workbench, so owning ore without having the relevant task and recipe is not the same as being ready to submit it.

The mining lead points to the mines reached through the Mall Food Court. Hans has a friend there who can help with the ore route, and the Mall Rat supplies a Basic Pickaxe. Do not assume the small Beginner Mine beside Molly's Workshop contains every material this later craft needs. Use the unlocked Workbench recipe to check the exact ingredients before making a mining trip.

Once the chalice is crafted, return to Hans and finish the reward conversation. Crawford's stock expands to Pumpkin Seeds. Elroy gains the Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin Muffin, and Special Donut recipes in his shop. If you see the task marked complete but cannot find a new recipe, visit Elroy rather than repeatedly reopening Crawford's seed inventory.

The older instruction to receive a Furnace from Hans during this stage is obsolete. That reward was moved to Molly's Forge introduction. A missing Furnace here is therefore a reason to check the workshop route described below, not proof that you need to craft another chalice. Keep the chalice objective and the Furnace unlock as two different pieces of progression.

A Fast Food Fiend: the restaurant job unlocks Corn Seeds

Complete The Skull Chalice and wait for the next letter from Hans. The recorded letter timing begins from day 21 onward, with other pending letters able to delay its arrival. That makes day 21 an earliest recorded point, not a guarantee that every player gets the request that morning. Read the home journal when the message arrives, then return to Hans to accept the job.

The target is the Denizen of the Deep Fryer in the kitchen of Burgers Burgers, inside the Mall Food Court. Prepare for a fight rather than treating this as a normal restaurant purchase. Check that your weapon is equipped and take recovery items suited to your current stock. There is no single required weapon loadout established for this task, so do not spend all your materials on an assumed mandatory build.

Defeat the monster, then go back to Hans for the reward. The farming unlock is Corn Seeds. Elroy's added recipes include Cornbread, Mana Muffin, Special Burger, and Harvest Stew. The return trip matters: killing the target is the objective, while claiming the reward is what closes the job and connects it to the farm's next stage.

Bug Catching: the Pale Empress Moth request

Hans's Bug Catching task supplies a Bug Catching Net and asks for a Pale Empress Moth. The moth is associated with the Old Woods, so this request takes the farming route beyond ordinary planting and shopping. One recorded encounter was at the Campsite, but that should not be treated as a guaranteed daily spawn tile. Search with the net available and keep the requested catch for the hand-in.

If the area is still unfamiliar, use the Old Woods route guide to separate the accessible woodland from its later branches. Reaching a campsite and joining the Joggers Club are not interchangeable objectives. Do not assume every club challenge is required just because a moth was once found near club-related characters. Follow the conditions actually present in Hans's request.

Return the Pale Empress Moth to Hans to unlock Gloom Hops seeds. As with earlier crops, check Crawford's shop after claiming the reward. This task also matters for Meet Sophia, so finishing the catch without reporting it can leave a later letter waiting on an incomplete prerequisite. A rare catch is worth reserving immediately if you have other uses for insects or are clearing your inventory after an expedition.

Meet Sophia: the Catacombs visit and Coffee Bean Seeds

Meet Sophia requires completion of Bug Catching and access to the Catacombs. The recorded sequence has a three-day wait once both conditions are met, with other pending letters able to delay the message further. Open your home journal when Hans writes, then speak to him at the Farmhouse. He asks you to check on his sister Sophia.

Start the Catacombs part by finding Charlie on the third floor. The task then directs you to place the doll near the pit on that floor. Keep the journal wording in view while you explore so you do not mistake an unrelated chamber or a later depth for the hand-in location. The Catacombs guide separates entry progression from the deeper routes and their different objectives.

After completing the required interaction, return to Hans. The reward unlocks Coffee Bean Seeds. This is another point where a visit to the correct shop should follow the conversation rather than replace it. If the seeds are absent, check whether Hans has actually acknowledged the Catacombs objective before waiting through additional days.

Meeting Sophia for Hans and the later tower-related Sophia encounter should not be collapsed into one instruction. They appear in different task contexts and can require different follow-up actions. Keep the active task name beside your exploration goal, particularly if several letters have arrived close together. It is easier to finish one named objective than to assume every mention of the same person advances all associated quests.

Getting the Furnace from Molly

The Furnace now comes from Molly when you unlock the Forge. Speak to Tanner to open the workshop access, then meet Molly and receive the Rusty Pickaxe. Mine one Copper Ore in the nearby Beginner Mine, return it to her, and follow the workshop's Forge introduction. That introduction provides the Furnace and its recipe.

There is no current need to complete the old Lost Gameboy task to make Tanner open the door. If an older set of instructions sends you searching for that item, return to his available dialogue instead. The two changes belong together in the opening equipment route: access is obtained through the newer conversation, and the Furnace is awarded through Molly. Neither change requires repeating Hans's Wheat delivery.

Use the station names carefully when diagnosing a missing craft. The Workbench makes the chalice, the Furnace handles metal processing, the Forge is Molly's equipment-crafting and upgrading station, and the Grinder is the reward from The Farmer's Path. A recipe appearing at one station does not prove another station has the same options. For a specific equipment upgrade, follow the axe materials and Forge checks before committing scarce bars.

The ranch letter and the Stone Tower

Hans also writes when his brother returns from a business trip and the ranch beside the Farmhouse becomes available. The previously boarded route opens, allowing you to visit the ranch and begin its services. Do not use a video's day counter as a universal opening date. The useful sign is the actual letter and the changed entrance in your own game.

The cow guide covers the animal side after that access is available. Seed stock, ranch access, and animal purchases are related farm systems, but they have different immediate requirements. Buying every available seed is not an established substitute for a missing ranch event. Check the entrance and conversation first before saving for an animal you cannot yet purchase.

The Stone Tower near the farm is a separate investigation led through Professor Dayton in the Library. Farm development contributes to that broader progression, but a new seed packet is not itself a tower key. Follow the Stone Tower opening and investigation route when that structure becomes your goal. Keeping it separate from Hans's letters prevents you from waiting for a seed request that will never explain the next tower objective.

Hans task problems and the next useful check

A recipe is missing after a taskCheck Elroy's shop and whether you bought and learned the recipe
No new request from HansRead the home journal, collect the previous reward, and check the next task's area requirement
No Furnace from the chalice taskFinish Molly's copper-ore task and Forge introduction
Meet Sophia letter has not appearedComplete Bug Catching, unlock the Catacombs, and allow for the recorded wait and mail queue
Mines are empty during a crafting taskUse the weekly reset conditions, not repeated daily sleep

For missing materials, make a list from the actual crafting menu before setting out. The list should distinguish raw ore from bars, a purchased recipe from a crafted item, and a task object from a reward. If a mine is empty, the mine reset guide explains the weekly bath-related reset instead of assuming another night's sleep refills it. That lets you use the waiting period for a different task rather than revisiting an unchanged room.

For missing letters, finish any unclaimed reward conversation first. The follow-up can depend on that completion, and some messages also wait behind other mail. A full journal is not a reason to restart the farm or sell quest items in frustration. Pick the unresolved condition you can verify, complete it, and then return to the normal daily routine while the next request becomes available.
