The recorded code for Dave's five-digit door in Welcome to Elderfield is 43681. Sam's Cryptic Note contains the incomplete sequence 43.81, also written as 43_81. Visit the password door in Dave's house and enter the five digits in that order; the missing digit belongs in the middle.

Match Sam's note to Dave's password door

The relevant item is Cryptic Note from Sam. Its fragments mention wax, flame, a door of nine, and old gods, followed by the incomplete number. Those details identify the note connected to Dave's lock rather than a general message from another character.

The door asks for five digits. The fragment already supplies the first two and last two, leaving the third position missing. The complete recorded sequence places a 6 in that gap: 4, 3, 6, 8, 1.

This code is a recorded solution, not a guarantee that every later build uses an unchanged room script. If your note or lock shows a different sequence, use the information in that save. There is no need to treat the punctuation in 43.81 as an extra digit or append the missing number after the final 1.

Find the correct house and interaction

Visit your neighbor Dave’s house in the residential area and inspect the locked interior door. Dave is the cat who also has a food request, but the password lock is its own interaction. Finding him and speaking about a meal does not enter the code for you.

Look for the five-digit password prompt rather than a message asking for a named key. A door requesting Basic Skeleton Key is a different lock. The Skeleton Key uses guide separates those ordinary locked rooms from Dave's numeric entry.

Enter 43681 in the five available positions and confirm using the input shown by the game. Check the complete sequence before confirming rather than assuming the digits carried over from a previous attempt.

Obtain the Cryptic Note from Sam

Welcome to Elderfield conversation with Sam beside a bus stop

Look for Sam at Apartment 1 on the first floor of Greystone Estates, then check her other town locations if she is out. Her schedule varies, so the apartment is a starting point rather than a guaranteed meeting. Regular conversations are the recorded route to eventually receiving the Cryptic Note. There is no established exact friendship threshold, number of days, gift requirement, or appointment time for that delivery here.

Treat daily conversation as a sensible attempt to advance the interaction, not a promise that the next conversation must produce the note. If you have received another object from Sam, check its name before assuming the password clue has arrived. Her Seeker's Orb is a separate item and does not contain the same incomplete number.

The character overview can help distinguish Sam, Dave, and the other people involved in nearby tasks. For this puzzle, the important relationship is narrow: Sam provides the Cryptic Note, and Dave's house contains the password door. There is no supported requirement to complete every task offered by either character before entering the code.

Keep the Dark Mass calendar clue separate

Adrian and Jeanne's calendar mentions a Dark Mass at Dave's place and a passcode. That calendar clue is related to the mystery, but it does not establish that you must wait until the 27th to type the door code. Waiting for that date is not a confirmed prerequisite for opening the password interaction.

Early versions treated the calendar event and the password reward differently: the password could work while the dated event was not implemented. The v0.3.0 Non-Patrons update made the unlocked door enterable. The old claim that the room can never be entered is therefore not a useful blanket answer for a newer game.

The current state and full sequence of the Dark Mass event are not established here. If your immediate objective is the locked door, work on the note and code first. Do not advance several months solely because a calendar reference seems to imply that the password cannot be accepted on another day.

Dave’s food request is separate

Dave’s A Snack for a Cat asks for Fog Broth, made with Fog Eel and Celery after learning the recipe through Herb’s fishing lessons. It is not a confirmed password prerequisite; use the fishing tutorial for that task and inspect the numeric door separately.

Separate a rejected code from a room-entry crash

If the door rejects the code, confirm that you are at Dave's five-digit lock and that the sequence is 43681. Check the note's text if it is available. A rejection at the keypad is a different problem from the door opening and the game failing when you step through.

A room-entry crash was reported in a pre-release build. That does not mean a rejected code should be fixed by changing graphics settings, nor does it establish that every current entry will crash. If the lock opens but entering fails, preserve the save and capture the error or crash details before repeating the transition.

The practical route ends with the game's own response to the correct door interaction. No fixed treasure list or current room-event walkthrough is established here. Use 43681 for the recorded lock solution, then follow whatever the entered room actually presents rather than expecting a promised reward or an automatically completed calendar event.
